Thai Street Food

Thai food, and Thai street food in particular, holds a special place in my heart. And it's especially good for beginners since most of it can be done on just one wok and is fast and [relatively] healthy. Below are some of my favorite recipes -- feel free to add your own

Authentic Thai Basil Chicken (pad kra pao gai)

I once ate Thai basil chicken for 6 months while I was living in Bangkok and never got tired of it. When I left BKK I figured I might as well learn to make it since (a) I loved it so much (b) it's easy (c) it's fast and (d) it's actually a healthy meal. After much digging the recipe below by Mark Wiens (includes a step by step video!) is just perfect and you can get the ingredients quite easily, which are:

1 chicken breast (or any other cut of boneless chicken, about 200 grams)
5 cloves of garlic
4 Thai chilies
1 tablespoon oil for frying
1 teaspoon of oyster sauce
½ teaspoon light soy sauce
1 splash of dark soy sauce
½ teaspoon sugar
1 handful of Thai holy basil leaves
