Dhokaima Cafe
The food here is very delicious and the ambiance is just superb.
New Orleans Cafe
Never found this place cheap, but has been my favorite also for some reason. Didn't know, they bill for charging notebooks.
Dhokaima Cafe
They have good chicken springrolls and momos there.
Chez Caroline
Just came back from Chez Caroline and loved their desserts as always which are consistently good. A good combination is to eat at Shogun (best Japanese food in the city and also in Baber Mahal) for dinner and head over to Chez Caroline for dessert and coffee. Finish the night off hanging out at Casablanca next door - who says you can't feel fabulous in Kathmandu.
Dhokaima Cafe
yea.. it's really nice place to hang out.. our own Yala maya kendra is also at the backyard.. and pastries there is really nice.. coffee was great and,,, mo:mo was really tasty :)
Hoping to be there next week :)
Dhokaima Cafe
I LOVE Cafe Dhokaima, particularly when it's nice enough to sit outside.
If you like Mojitos and you're in the Kathmandu Valley, you HAVE to try one! They grow their own mint (which is often picked after you order the drink).
Great desserts, good spinach pasta. I really like the momos, the spring rolls, and the tandoori chicken salad sandwich.
A.K.A. Cafe
Went over to check A.K.A. out and really loved the place. It's a skating rink that rents out skates. It feels more like a childrens playground a little rundown but it adds to the charm. And it's pretty funky - there are cows on the premises and rabbits! Didn't eat anything there but I hear the pizza is quite good. Best of all the place is quiet and peaceful and a nice respite from the noise of Kathmandu. Highly recommended - would def go back.
Had a nice long chat with the owner, Uday, who came back to Nepal after spending time in the US and UK. He also sells hemp, nettle, linen etc. to retailers in the west.
A.K.A. Cafe
A peaceful haven in the midst of Hattisar.
Sad that I never knew that this place existed only 1 min walk from my office. All those lunches surrounded by the crowds, heat and traffic.
This place is soooo quiet - even during the busy lunch period. Even quieter than Garden of Dreams. Beautiful country style (as opposed to manicured) garden, great pizzas and drinks. Bring your own mat if you want to lie around and meditate under the fruit trees.
Have skateboard and roller skates for hire - and a great track through the gardens. Great for kids.
Will certainly be back there for a lunch time break. At night they close about 8pm unless you tell them in advance. Know where we'll all end up if everyone has to work late next.
They also do take away and delivery.
Mercantile Office Systems
no. you can only have one phone number per listing in the phone field
Mercantile Office Systems
is it possible to separate the phone no? this post is showing the phone no. as 42207734243566(???). I've tried , / () and space between the no. but it does not show any of them.
New Orleans Cafe
Greta place for a very inexpensive breakfast. Staff are personable and get to know you well.
Wifi is free - but oddly powering your laptop has a once off charge of 50 nrp or so - which tends to piss people off when they don;t know (it is on the menu in fine print).
Good place to have a drink before moving on in Thamel - although renovations next door and loud music in nearby places - makes it less appealing than a few years ago.
There is now a new rear entrance from the Sagarmatha Bazaar - where Cafe Kaldi, Arniko Skateboards and The Factory are
Mike's Breakfast
A regular breakfast goer here as just around corner from Office.
Lunch is also very very good - fresh sandwiches, salads and wraps - with fresh juices - make for a peaceful and welcome change. Excellent quiet time for lunch.
Chez Caroline
Although I am not a dessert fiend - a whole menu of desserts seemed to be something special. 30+ I think - excessive? perhaps. Typically French Provincial style - absolutely. Fresh, simple, delicious fare.
Food and wine were awesome.
Norvic Hospital
I had the misfortune to be medi-vacced to this hospital. Misfortune only in that I was very sick - not the hospital.
The staff were excellent and I felt very confident in their competence, equipment and facilities.
As with most local hospitals I had to hire a minder to get food for me for the 3 days I was there.
I have excellent travel and evacuation insurance - and this was what they chose as the best in town rather than taking me out to Bangkok or home.
Price was a bargain for all the tests, scans and treatment I had - compared to Australia.
Dwarika's Hotel
I love the architecture.
The Friday afternoon BBQ is one of the best in KTM. Great place to take visitors for a pre-departure dinner.
Don;t know about the traditional Nepali restaurant.
Newa Chén
It is peace, history and culture, just off Patan Durbar Square. Renovated and listed by UNESCO World Heritage - it used to be called Shresta House and still has artifacts and pictures in each room from its time as a museum.
Rajendra Shresta and his family and staff make you feel most welcome. People just keep coming back.
This place is just wonderful. Relaxed and quiet - perfect for after work and long lie ins. Substantial changing breakfasts in the courtyard each day prepare you for the day. Free wifi (with good speed). Coming home through Patan Durbar Square after the tourists have gone is just an amazing experience - particularly at night.
Facilities are basic - but reasonable and comfortable. Mattresses on floor mats, low tables and cushions to sit on - very traditional - not for those wanting a modern hotel that could be in any city - this is 200% Newari Nepal - but in a refined and elegant way.
For business travelers, the lack of a decent table and chair to work at and an ironing board in each room (you can borrow one though) are the only down sides. You can work upstairs in the low dining room/rec room. The tranquility each day, wifi and setting more than made up fir for me.
There are no tv's or phones (although you can use the hotel one).
Mike's Breakfast
This place is fabulous :D
Dwarika's Hotel
Love the architecture and ambiance, but was not too impressed with the food at their traditional Nepali restaurant.
Dwarika's Hotel
I LOVE Dwarika's. I've eaten at their Friday night buffet and also stopped by for drinks.
The buffet is huge and quite good (although, as you mention, it's expensive by Kathmandu standards).
The drinks are also delicios and it's not just the same old thing.
I love the setting in the courtyard. It might not be exciting, but it's incredibly well-done.
Dwarika's Hotel
Was pleasantly surprised at the tranquility of the place. Wouldn't have thought so from the location but it's pretty spectacular inside. Was most impressed by the A-list celebrities that have been to the place - Hillary, Prince Charles, Jimmy Carter etc.
Architecturally, it's all restored Newar which to me feels "old" and not exciting but it's done well here. The pool area is very impressive and so are the three restaurants. It's a bit pricey at the Krishnarpan restaurant at $50 per person but then again you are getting a 22 course meal (but who eats a 22 course meal??). Definitely worth a visit if not a stay.
